Embrace the Power of Self-Confidence

The journey to developing self-confidence begins with overcoming fear—the ever-

present whisper on our shoulders that says, “You cannot do it; you’re afraid to try;

you will fail; everyone will laugh at you; you’re afraid of public opinion.” Science has

discovered a powerful antidote to this fear: self-confidence.

Our identities are greatly shaped by social heredity, which includes generational

influences, supersDDons, beliefs, legends, and ideas passed down from one

generation to the next. Social heredity encompasses all the sources through which we

acquire knowledge, such as schooling, religion, parenting, community interactions,

reading, word of mouth, storytelling, and thought processes.

Parents often work hard to give their children an easy life, unintentionally creating a

handicap that the child struggles to overcome. When children are forced to work and

strive for their best, they develop temperance, self-control, and strength of will—

qualities that those unaccustomed to effort may never know.

Remember this: nothing can bring you peace but yourself, and nothing can bring you

success but yourself.

A Self-Confidence Formula

Here’s a powerful self-confidence formula that you can write down, read oLen, or

memorize. Whenever you feel the need, look at it and say it out loud:

1. Believe in Your Ability: “I know that I have the ability to achieve the object of

my purpose. Therefore, I demand of myself persistent, aggressive, continuous

action toward its attainment.”

2. Dominate Your Thoughts: “I realize that the dominating thoughts of my mind

eventually reproduce themselves in outward, bodily action and into physical

reality. Therefore, I will concentrate my mind for 30 minutes daily on the task

of thinking about the person I intend to be, by creating a mental picture of this

person and then transforming that picture into reality through practical

service.”

3. Persist in Your Desires: “Any desire that I persistently hold in my mind will

eventually seek expression through physical means of realizing it. Therefore, I

shall devote Dme every day to the development of my desires.”

4. Build on Truth and JusFce: “I realize that no wealth or position can long endure

unless built upon truth and justice. Therefore, I will engage in no transaction

that does not benefit all whom it affects.”5. Develop Love for Humanity: “I will eliminate hatred, envy, jealousy, selfishness,

and cynicism by developing a love for all humanity. I know that a negative

attitude toward others can never bring me success.”

6. Think PosiFvely: “I will only think about myself as intelligent, wise, successful,

loved, admired, supported, creative, healthy, wealthy, and happy. I will believe

this and extend these positive feelings to anyone I interact with, making them

feel appreciated, loved, cared for, and heard.”

7. Support Others: “I believe the sun shines on everyone. I will build up and

support others without expecting anything in return. I believe in the law of

retaliation—doing good to others will make you feel good about yourself.”

The Contagious Nature of Self-Confidence
